The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has reminded candidates who sat for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that their scores were not enough to guarantee them admission.
In essence, merit, catchment area, educationally-less-privileged states are all considered in the admission process into federal tertiary institutions.
In a statement in Abuja yesterday by JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Oloyede said: “The board’s examination is not a fail or pass examination, as there are other variables considered outside the examination to arrive at a successful admission.
“There was no need for desperation in getting high scores as being touted by fraudulent characters because it won’t guarantee automatic admission.”
He cautioned against the activities of some dupes on various social media platforms with promises of unrealistic favours to candidates.
Oloyede encouraged candidates with issues not to resort to third parties but to channel their enquiries and grievances to JAMB offices near them for proper education and counselling.
