Several residents of Itamarun village in Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State, suffered various degrees of injuries when hoodlums stormed the community and ordered them to vacate.
It was gathered that the hoodlums molested several women in the community while youths that stood to ask questions were inflicted with injuries.
Residents said the attack by the hoodlums has caused panic in the community, leaving many with the option either to hide whenever they arrived or flee the community.
It was learnt that the recent attack on the community occurred last Monday, with several women harassed and molested by the hoodlums said to be land grabbers
The hoodlums were led by a gang of five (names withheld) suspected notorious land grabbers familiar with the community.
Those injured were treated at Akodo General Hospital. Traditional ruler of the town, Bale Sulaiman Nojim, in a Save Our Soul (SOS) message, lamented that members of the community saw hell in the hands of the notorious land grabbers and their thugs after they attacked the community claiming that the land belonged them.
He appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to rescue them from the hoodlums.
He alleged that the attack was in connivance with some security agents, noting that the leader of the deadly gang has continued to make their lives very difficult and vowed not to relent.
According to him, the hoodlums stormed the community around 3pm on Monday in seven vehicles brandishing dangerous weapons, such as guns, axe, cutlasses and broken bottles.
He said: “It was like a war when these suspected hoodlums stormed our village, asking residents to vacate the village on the ground that the land belongs to them. Our women were molested, while most of our youth were beaten blue and black.”
He said the village has no land dispute with anybody. “I was shocked when the hoodlums stormed our community in broad daylight with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, demanding that we leave.
“The situation was bad when I saw the hoodlums with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons. We are begging the state government to quickly come to our aid before the matter goes out of hands.
“This is because we share boundaries with one another. It was a moment of agony, which the community would not forget in a hurry.”
The DPO of Akodo Police Station, Yahaya Adeola and his team were also said to have visited the scene and assured residents that the perpetrators of the crime wouldn’t go unpunished.
