A United Kingdom-based Nigerian Medical Doctor, Charles Ojukwu, has attributed the exodus of Nigerians to other countries to hardship and lack of sincerity of purpose.
Ojukwu, in a chat with select journalists yesterday, said government must be commitment to fixing basic infrastructure to encourage investors.
“First, we have to develop the culture of sincerity of purpose, commitment, starting from the governed to those that govern.
“We have to value what we have, most people that are rich value to travel abroad to get their medical treatment for something that can be done here in Nigeria.
“Secondly, the government needs to be sincere, that is why I said sincerity of purpose, they need to be sincere and look at what is the World Health Organisation’s recommendation for budget in health is.”
The Founder of CKOI Foundation, also said it was absurd for hospitals to demand police report before treating gunshot victims.
He said: “We should not be discussing this kind of issues in today’s world if we want to make serious improvements in health sector.
“That is why I say there must be sincerity of purpose from government, because how can you start going to police to get a record, or certificate when somebody may be bleeding.”
On the insecurity, he said poverty, lack of access to education, lack of access to opportunities to good life should be addressed to distract the youth from criminality.
“If we have a social system that is well structured to tackle issues of poverty, lack of access to education, unemployment, gainfully employing people, a lot of people will not be thinking about getting into crime,” he suggested.
