Less than six hours after unknown gunmen shot and killed a petty trader in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State, a rice seller, has also been gunned down at the Bisi Market in the metropolis.
The petty trader identified as Alfa Taofeek was reportedly killed in his shop at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital ( EKSUTH) area of the capital city, on Thursday morning.
It was gathered that the gunmen arrived his shop on a motorcycle., opened fire on him and carted away his money and other valuables.
It was also gathered that the rice seller was hawking with his wheel barrow inside the market when thet gunmen came on a motorbike, opened fire on him and fled the scene.
It was learnt that the rice seller was not the target but was accidentally killed by the attackers.
The development caused panic in the market as buyers, sellers, motorists, okader riders and passersby ran into different directions for safety.
Speaking on the incidents, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Sunday Abutu, said ” immediately we got the information on the death of the petty trader we mobilised our men to the scene. The man was found lying down in a pool of his blood and was moved to the general hospital where he was confirmed dead. His body has been deposited in the mogue. Right now, the commissioner of police has ordered investigation into the incident to ensure that the criminals are arrested and brought to justice.”
Abutu added, “the command has also commenced investigation to unravel the killers of the rice seller .”
The unpleasant incidents happened barely 48 hours after unknown gunmen shot and killed a middle- aged man who worked as ticket seller with Okada Riders’ Association in Ekiti State on Tuesday, at the Okesa area of the state capital.
Consequently, security agencies have been detailed in every nook and cranny of the metropolis to prevent further killing.
