Gunmen, on Saturday, killed three policemen and an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at separate checkpoints, along Enugu-Makurdi Expressway in Enugu State.
The incident occurred at the Premier Junction, Eha-Alumona in Nsukka Local Government, and Orba town in Udenu Local Government Area.
A witness said the attack, which lasted more than two hours, started around 4pm. Two Hilux vans belonging to the police and the FRSC teams were set ablaze by the attackers.
The gunmen also attacked Igwe Patrick Eze, also known as Igwe Waziri, at Orba in Udenu local area of the state. Waziri is the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla community in Udenu local government area. It was gathered that the gunmen killed a police officer and an FRSC personnel, while Igwe Waziri escaped unhurt.
The Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, had placed a N10 million bounty on gunmen who killed two policemen, last Friday, within the Enugu metropolis.
The policemen were killed while manning a checkpoint, along presidential road, by gunmen suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The Enugu State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, did not respond to calls to his line when contacted for confirmation.
