A movement has emerged seeking the candidacy of Architect Shehu Ahmed Tukur for the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.

The group, known as Architect Shehu Ahmed Tukur Vanguard (ASAT), comprising people from the five local government areas that constitute the Nasarawa South Senatorial District, made the call during a rally held in Lafia.

Speakers at the rally cited Tukur’s numerous contributions to humanity as a qualification for his bid for the governorship seat.

Yahaya Mirror from Doma Local Government Area said the incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule had done well in transforming the state, stressing the need for a successor to build upon his success.

“Our reason for calling on Architect Tukur to vie for the top seat of the state is born out of his zeal and the contributions he has been making in building the state. For this, we’re begging Tukur to answer our call to contest the gubernatorial seat under the platform of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Architect Tukur’s acceptance to contest for the seat would give residents of the state hope of continuing to improve on the legacy projects brought by the current administration of Governor Sule,” Mirror said.

Adamu Oyiko from Doma Local Government Area said people from his local government were yearning for quality leadership in the state. According to him, Architect Tukur is at the top of the list of leaders the state needs.

“Our prayers and hope are for Architect Ahmed Shehu Tukur to answer the call from the Nasarawa South Senatorial District to not only contest but succeed Governor Abdullahi Sule as the next Governor of Nasarawa State,” he stated.

Umar Dalhatu Abubakar from Keana Local Government described Architect Tukur as a courageous person who could take the state to the next level.

In his reaction, the State Coordinator of ASAT, Abdullahi Yamani, said Architect Tukur was among the individuals who had been building the state since its creation in 1996.
