The Arewa Youth Assembly and its Southwest counterpart, Yoruba Youth Assembly have jointly asked President Muhammadu Buhari, to relieve Mr Godwin Emefiele, of his appointment as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The group in a statement jointly signed by the Speakers of both Assemblies, Salihu Mohammed and Oluwatobi Johnson, say it is “disturbed by the deteriorating economic situation in the country, mostly occasioned by the now dangerously misguided policies of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and most pathetically an unprecedented fall of the Naira in the foreign exchange market.
The groups further said they can no longer fold their arms and allow the incompetent management of the Central Bank, to continue, under Mr Godwin Emefiele, as it fear, that this may completely cripple the nation’s economy, foreign investment and ultimately send Nigerians to untimely graves, as a result of the hardship, that Nigerians now face, due to the incompetence of Mr Emefiele.
“It is also on record that Mr Emefiele has become known for his excesses to decide and act on financial matters without recourse to due process, thereby arbitrarily embarking on financial policies, programmes and activities which are often time not in line with the aspiration of Nigerians and programs of the Federal Government.” the groups further alleged.
They therefore asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack Mr Godwin Emefiele as the CBN Governor.
