A political pressure group, Oyo Advocate for Good Governance (OAGG), has intensified calls for the emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.

The group said its endorsement of Alli was anchored on his experience in governance, grassroots political influence and perceived ability to unite factions within the party ahead of the polls.

In a statement by its Mobilisation Coordinator, Saheed Alabi, OAGG argued that the APC needed a candidate capable of reconciling longstanding divisions within the party if it hopes to reclaim power from the Peoples Democratic Party in 2027.

According to the group, Alli possesses the administrative experience and political maturity required to reposition the APC and provide effective leadership for Oyo State.

The group noted that the senator, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District, had occupied several strategic positions in the state, including Chief of Staff to former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government and Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company.

It added that his background in governance and public administration had exposed him to policy coordination and grassroots administration, placing him in a strong position to manage the affairs of the state.

OAGG further stated that support for Alli’s governorship ambition had continued to grow among stakeholders across Ibadan, Ibarapa and other parts of the state.

The group said endorsements for Alli had increased across different blocs within the APC, citing the backing of the Ibarapa zone as well as support from party leaders such as Senator Ayo Adeseun and  Fatai Ibikunle.

According to the group, Alli enjoys broader acceptability within the APC compared to other aspirants whose ambitions, it claimed, have triggered internal disagreements within the party.

The group also cited Alli’s relationship with the presidency and loyalty to the APC as factors strengthening confidence in his candidacy among party stakeholders.

Beyond internal party politics, OAGG argued that Alli’s performance in the Senate, particularly through constituency projects and legislative interventions, had further enhanced his popularity among voters across Oyo State.

It added that his accessibility and longstanding grassroots connections positioned him as a formidable contender capable of leading the APC into the 2027 governorship election.
