The Association of Nigerians in the Australian Capital Territory (NAACT) has expressed its strong and unequivocal condemnation of the conduct exhibited by Mr Chris Juwon Fayomi, in his ongoing public attacks against the Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria in Australia, Ambassador Jane Bassey Adams.
President, Association of Nigerians in the Australian Capital Territory, Professor Francis Ogbonnaya, in a statement made available to Sunday Sun, said the association firmly supported the fundamental right of individuals and groups to express concerns and to hold public officials accountable.
The association, however, said such engagement must be anchored in facts, integrity, respect, and responsible conduct.
“In the present instance, what has been observed goes beyond legitimate advocacy and reflects a troubling pattern of misinformation, distortion, and personal attacks amplified through sensationalist media engagement.

“It is particularly concerning that these actions are directed at a senior diplomatic official who, by the nature of her office, is constrained from responding publicly to such allegations. The exploitation of this professional restraint to advance unverified claims and falsehood is both inappropriate and inconsistent with the ethical standards expected of community leadership,” NAACT said.
The group further said leadership carried with it a responsibility to act with maturity, integrity, and respect for others.
It added that the conduct in question fell significantly short of the expectations and did not reflect the values or character of the Nigerian community in the ACT.
“NAACT calls on all members of the community to refrain from the politicisation of grievances and instead pursue concerns through appropriate, constructive, and respectful channels. Differences of opinion must never descend into defamation or the denigration and personal vendetta of individuals and institutions.
“Let it be clearly stated that NAACT and its members will not condone actions that seek to undermine the reputation of individuals or institutions through reckless falsehood and self-serving narratives. We remain steadfast in our commitment to unity, dignity, respect for individuals, institutions and the responsible representation of our community.
“NAACT further affirms its positive, collaborative and constructive engagement with the Acting High Commissioner, Dr Jane Bassey Adams. Our interactions have consistently been respectful, forward-looking, and grounded in a shared commitment to advancing Nigeria’s national interest. We have absolute confidence in her excellency’s verifiable, demonstrable, selfless and evidence-based services and advocacy for the Nigerian community in ACT and Australia wide,” NAACT stated.
