Group begs US, EU, UK to insist on credible polls

The United States of America, United Kingdom and the European Unionhave been called upon to do all that is legally possible to ensure that the February 23 presidential/National Assembly electiona are transparent and peaceful.

In a statement issued in Abuja, yesterday, the group, under the umbrella of ‘The Nigerian Think-Tank, said the international community cannot afford to be aloof on the need for a free and fair election.

The group which is also known as ‘We The People  of Nigeria,’ led by Dr. Lloyd  Ukwu, said in a presentation to the European Union in Brussels, Washington and London, insisted that the international community must be involved to ensure that the election is conducted under a free, fair and credible atmosphere devoid of any form of threat and arm-twisting by any of the contestants.

The group explained that during the visits by its three man committee, it met, discussed and engaged with the US State Department, US Congress and the Senate, as well as deliver a letter to the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Cohen, in New York.
