Chairman, Nasarawa Sate Chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Alhaji Hussaini Mohammed, has explained that the only solution to the frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the country was the creation of grazing reserve and ranches.
He advised state governors to support the Federal Government’s initial proposal of creating grazing areas and ranches across the country where the herdsmen would take care of their cattle.
Hussaini Mohammed told Daily Sun in an exclusive chat in Lafia, the state capital, that the Fulani believe that the establishments of the grazing reserves would boost livestock population, lessened the difficulty of herding, reduced seasonal migration, and enhanced the interaction among farmers, pastoralists, and rural dwellers.
His views was collaborated by the chairman of Udenye Magaji districts forum in the state, Alhaji Jibrin Adamu, who also believed that herdsmen/farmers clashes would continue until grazing reserves and ranches were established by the government in the country.
The two leaders explained that they have also set up a committees around the riverine areas from Nasarawa State linking Benue State in order to check the movement of Fulani and identify those that are not known to the communities, noting that they are having a lot of challenges in ensuring the peace process initiated by both governors of Nasarawa and Benue states.
