International premium brand, Tiger Beer, is launching its global platform, the Tiger Street Football Tournament, in Nigeria for the first time with a bold vision: to give street football the stage it deserves.

The grassroots 5-aside tourney, billed to kick-off October in Akwa, the capital of Anambra state, will see eight teams jostle for premier prize which will see champion, 2nd placed and 3rd placed team walk away with whopping sum of N5 million, N3 million and N1 million respectively.

Speaking ahead of the tourney, Portfolio Manager, Premium Brands, Maria Shadeko revealed all is set to stage a competition billed to produce future stars. In his words: “ In Nigeria, football doesn’t begin in academies or polished stadiums; it begins in the streets. It’s the sound that echoes amidst the quiet in every neighbourhood, the laughter of children playing barefoot, and the determinant of neighbourhood bragging rights. These rough, improvised pitches have given the country not just its culture of play but also some of its most iconic stars. The game is all about mates who support each other to progress, and Tiger has consistently been about inspiring progress and courage.”

“This tournament, which will kick off in Awka, offers more than just a stage for competition. It creates opportunity for the very people it represents, the non-professional players that play on the streets for the love of the sport. The 5-a-side competition is designed to ignite the fearless, uncaged energy of young Nigerians and celebrate their raw, unfiltered love for football.”

“Non-professional players – students and hustlers, dreamers and hidden talents – will form teams of eight and battle through a knockout format beginning with the round of 16. Each city will host its own full competition, culminating in a one-day spectacle of semi-finals and finals. The stakes are high: the champion team will walk away with ₦5 million, with ₦3 million for second place and ₦1 million each for third and fourth.”

“But Tiger Beer knows football is not just about goals and glory, it’s about championing the power of the collectives. From the teams bringing the collective passion to the game, to the fans bringing the energy to support their local teams, Tiger aims to celebrate communities. Around the games, halftime parties and live cultural experiences will channel the rhythm and resilience of the streets. The result is part competition, part festival, a reminder that football is as much about community as it is about sport.”

“Tiger Street Football is not just about football. It is about the people. It is about recognising talent, celebrating community, and giving Nigerians a platform to shine where football feels most alive — in the streets.”

“ At the heart of this tournament is possibility. That the same streets that produced Jay-Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, and Victor Osimhen are still alive with talent, waiting to be discovered. By investing here, Tiger Beer isn’t just backing football; it’s backing the courage and creative fire that define Nigerian youth,” Maria Shadeko disclosed.
