Former Nigeria military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon and the former Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako led thousands of Nigerians to pray for the health and wellbeing of President Muhmamedu Buhari and stability of the country in Adamawa, at the weekend.
A group named Nigeria Prays and an All Progressives Congress (APC) interest group, Buhari-Osinbajo Again, intensified prayers for the president and the nation.
Gowon, who led Nigeria Prays in the prayer at Demsa local government of Adamawa State said the survival of the nation lies in tolerance between the Muslims and Christians.
“Nigeria Prays is committed to praying for the wellbeing of Nigeria and God has always been intervening in Nigeria’s situation. We have a lot to be grateful to God for, especially for keeping the nation as one,” he said.
The political pressure group, Buhari-Osinbajo Again also staged a rally within the state capital, calling on Nigerians to pray for the number one citizen of the country.
Speaking at the rally, former Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako, represented by his son, Senator Abdulaziz Nyako, said, “I am in this occasion to show solidarity to Buhari and Osinbanjo to continue in 2019. We have an acting president and we need to support him in the work he is doing. The people of northeast will continue to pray for Buhari because he has restored peace to the region that was a war zone,” Nyako said.
He also urged Nigerians support to Osinbajo who he said, “has the ability to move the nation forward.”
Some of the party faithful described Buhari as the pillar that holds together the unity of the nation.
Governor Bindow had earlier received the former military head of state where he urged for earnest prayers for President Buhari.
Adamawa residents, irrespective of ethic, religious and party affiliations united in prayers for the president’s health and safe return. The APC support group marched round Yola metropolis displaying banners and placards that read “Buhari-Osinbanjo to continue in 2019”.
The CAN chairman of Yola North, Rev Echem Sule said “the prayer session is in line with the Biblical injunction that requires that we pray for our leaders; so, Buhari needs prayers and all Nigerians should pray for him.”
“People should stop playing politics with the president’s health because he is human like every one of us and falling ill is human,” Echem said.
He noted that, “Corruption has been a major problem with Nigeria and Buhari has been at the helm of dealing with it; we need the president to continue the fight.”
