- Chief Eta criticises governors for lack of accountability and development despite significant resources
- He highlights the lack of progress in agriculture as a key concern
- Eta urges Nigerians to hold their governors responsible for the management of state resources
From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar
A former acting national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Hillard Eta, has disclosed that governors are the major problem in Nigeria.
Chief Eta said everyone talks about President Tinubu, but nobody is calling out governors despite the resources they receive.
The APC chieftain, who disclosed this in an interview in Calabar, insisted that it is time for Nigerians to start holding their governors accountable and inquire about what they have been doing with the resources accruing to them.
“Governors are the major problems of Nigeria. They take half of the commonwealth of Nigeria and do absolutely nothing, yet people don’t call them out.
“The state governments are using the resources meant for the people, in most cases, as if they belong to them individually.
“Everybody is talking about President Tinubu, but half of our money goes to the states, and nobody is calling out governors.
“For example, in the past three months, there has been a tripling of money coming to the states. Who is asking the governors, and how creative have they been with these monies that have come to them?
“You can hear that the federal government is building the Lagos to Calabar coastal highway, what are the states building?
“If the governors were paying attention to agriculture, we would not be talking about food challenges today.
“If the state governors were doing what the regional governments did in the 1960s, we would not be talking about problems of food in Nigeria. It’s not possible,” Chief Eta said.
