Gombe GovernorMuhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has called on the Federal Government to take immediate action to fix the washed-away Gombe Bauchi road.

Following heavy downpours, the road has become inaccessible and poses a risk to commuters. Governor Yahaya has expressed his concern for the safety and well-being of his constituents and has urged the Federal Government to take swift action to fix the road.

In his statement shortly after inspecting and assessing the washed-away road collapsed bridge, Governor Yahaya emphasized the importance of maintaining infrastructure, stating that “we cannot afford to ignore the critical role this roads play in our socio-economic development. This road links Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, and parts of Borno states.”

He stressed that repair of the road is vital not just for the people of Bauchi or Gombe States, but for the entire North-East region of the country, as it serves as a major transportation route for goods and services.

Governor Yahaya assured the people of Gombe state that the government is doing everything in its power to ensure that the road is fixed as soon as possible. He said, “You can see that this part that was collapsed now is in Bauchi state and I know the governor of Bauchi was here, but I have no option than to come and see for myself.

We are aware that the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has been working on the road and the staff from the federal minister have mentioned that they have instructed the contractor and I can see that they are working to create a walkway. If they will work day and night maybe in three or four days’ time that will be achieved,” Governor Yahaya said.

While urging the Federal Government to prioritize the repair of the road in consideration of the pressing needs of the people, The governor said, “I had to call the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works yesterday and before then, I was at the Federal Ministry of works four times on this issue and it has not been solved.

He added that he has observed that the road requires reconstruction rather than rehabilitation. He said, “This road is nearly 50 years old. It cannot stand any longer, we need the bridges to be rebuilt and complete reconstruction”.

However, the governor assured commuters that they would be a prompt response from the Federal Government in addressing this critical and lingering issue of the road which has been making life difficult for many.
