Government’s Vigilance in Flood Prevention Efforts, A Collaborative Endeavor – Kwanta

In a proactive move to mitigate the impending threat of flooding, the commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources Hon. Kwanta Yakubu has said the threat to flooding could be mitigated with the efforts of other agencies and ministries in the state.

Speaking on Saturday after the Sanitation Exercises at the premises of state environmental ministry through the permanent secretary, Ministry of environment and Natural Resources, Alh. Garba Rocha Muhammed lauded the concerted efforts of the task force, comprising of representatives from divers ministries and agencies.

Muhammed commended the support of government officials and local communities in fostering compliance with sanitation laws.

Expressing gratitude for the government’s support, Muhammed emphasized the pivotal role played by community leaders and citizens in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. He acknowledged the diligent efforts of ministry staff and security agencies in enforcing compliance measures.

Noting the onset of the rainy season and the historical prevalence of flooding, Muhammed reassured the public of the government’s commitment to flood prevention. He underscored the proactive stance of the government in disseminating timely information and conducting awareness campaigns in flood-prone areas.

Further speaking on compliance, the Chief Prosecuting Officer of Sanitation Courts in Nasarawa State, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed, highlighted the collaborative efforts of various governmental bodies.

Abubakar underscored the necessity of sensitization campaigns and enforcement measures to ensure public safety.

He further elaborated on the enforcement measures undertaken, revealing that 25 individuals had been apprehended for non-compliance with sanitation laws. He outlined the penalties imposed, ranging from fines to imprisonment for motorists, shops, and corporate bodies.

In response to queries regarding recent compliance, Abubakar acknowledged challenges posed by public awareness and adherence to sanitation regulations. He emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to achieving 100% compliance and urged parents to instill environmental responsibility in their children.

Highlighting the government’s proactive approach, Abubakar reiterated the importance of collaborative efforts in averting flood-related disasters. He affirmed the administration’s readiness to deploy resources and personnel to vulnerable areas, emphasizing the priority of safeguarding lives and property.
