Lawmaker representing Obubra I State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Ovat Agbor, has stated that the ongoing  15km road project stretching from  Ofunana to adjourning communities is successfully restoring the community’s confidence in the state government.

Agbor stated that the transformative infrastructure, made possible through the constituency funds provided by Gov Otu, is finally addressing the deep-seated sense of neglect previously felt by residents in the border areas.

Speaking on the impact of the infrastructure, the lawmaker noted that residents of the area had long felt neglected due to a lack of government’s presence. He revealed that the deficit of basic infrastructure had made the community feel more geographically and socially aligned with neighbouring Ebonyi State than with Cross River and the ongoing project is effectively changing that narrative.

“Because of the lack of government’s presence, the people in Ofumana felt they were closer to Ebonyi State.

“I decided to give them a sense of belonging to let them understand that they are an integral part of Cross River State and that the government cares for their welfare,” he said.

The lawmaker explained that the project, funded through constituency funds provided by Governor  Otu, connects the Ebonyi/Cross River boundary to the heart of Obubra.

He highlighted the immediate economic benefits, noting that the road has created a more efficient transit route. “Instead of travelling through Ugep to access Abakaliki, people within this axis now prefer crossing the river and driving directly through this route. This has significantly eased the movement of goods and services,” he added.

Beyond road construction, Agbor announced several other transformative interventions aimed at improving living standards in the constituency.

These include the construction of new classroom blocks and the installation of four water projects designed to tackle acute water shortages that have plagued the area.
