The Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas has enjoined the graduating students of Mountain Top University, (MTU) to make good use of their talents to enrich the lives of those around them and positively impact their communities.
Delivering the 6th convocation ceremony address at MTU, Governor Kefas emphasized on the need to take advantage of opportunities to excel. “Your talents are not meant to be hidden but shared to enrich the lives of those in your communities and beyond,” he said.
He encouraged the graduands to embark on purposeful careers that align with their passions and societal needs, emphasizing the importance of responsibility and integrity in whatever paths they choose.
“As you step into the next phase of your lives, remember that true success is measured not just by personal achievements but by the positive impact you make on others,” he advised.
The ceremony, which celebrated the hard work and dedication of the graduating class, witnessed the award of degrees to over graduands across various disciplines.
Governor Kefas emphasized the importance of embracing the university’s motto, “Empowered to Excel,” in all facets of life. This empowerment transcends mere success; it embodies the pursuit of excellence grounded in integrity, faith, and a commitment to service.
“As graduates, you possess the knowledge, skills, and values that equip you to make a significant impact on society. This is a pivotal moment to rise to the challenge set before you: let your light shine, embody the principles you’ve learned, and become agents of change in your communities and beyond.
“Strive to apply what you’ve gained during your education in ways that uplift others, foster innovation, and contribute to the common good. Remember, your journey does not end with graduation; rather, it begins a new chapter where you can influence positive change and inspire those around you. Embrace your role as leaders, using your empowerment to excel not only for your own benefit but to uplift the lives of others. Your commitment to this purpose is what will truly make a difference in the world.
Addressing the graduates, the Chancellor of MTU, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, urged them to be ambassadors of the university’s values.
His word: “Go forth and shine as stars in the firmament, carrying the banner of Mountain Top University as the light of Christ wherever you go. The journey ahead will come with peculiar challenges. The world is in a state of flux, with uncertainties on every side. However, as children of God, you are not ordinary; you are overcomers. Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. Do not be afraid to confront difficulties. Face them with confidence, knowing that the God who brought you this far will see you through.”
Also stressing the importance of discipline and integrity, he said: “MTU is strict and disciplined, and where there is no discipline, there can be no progress. Discipline is essential for becoming better individuals who influence lives and impact destinies. Pursue excellence and integrity wherever you find yourself and serve humanity as ambassadors.”
Praising the parents and stakeholders for their sacrifices, Olukoya said, “Your labour of love has not been in vain. I salute your investments in these young men and women and pray the Lord strengthens you.”
MTU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Elijah Adebowale Ayolabi, celebrated the academic excellence of the graduating class and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically accomplished but also equipped with the practical skills needed to drive positive change in society.
The VC stated the institution’s commitment to vocational training alongside academic courses, with the aim of producing graduates who are well rounded and equipped to tackle societal challenges.
He stressed that MTU’s goal is not just to award degrees but to bridge the gap between traditional academic education and practical skills that are essential in today’s job market.
Meanwhile. Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, honoured the Best Graduating Student from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Ms. Oni Itunu-Oluwa, with the sum of N2 million while Dr Folashade Olukoya offered N1million for her remarkable 4.98 CGPA.
The event concluded with a call on the graduates to be champions of change, taking up leadership roles in their communities and striving for excellence in all their endeavours.
