The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has stressed the need for the development of teachers in the country, as a way of ensuring effective learning.

Abbas made the statement at a public on a bill for the amendment of the Federal Colleges of Education Act, to establish the Federal College of Education (Special) in Dukku, Gombe State.

The speaker noted that the development of teachers cannot be overemphasized owing to their roles in the development of society.

According to him, “it is through education that we empower our youth, instil values of critical thinking and innovation, and equip them with the skills necessary to navigate an increasingly complex world.

“The importance of education transcends national boundaries and is recognized globally as a fundamental human right. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals underscore the critical role of education in achieving a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable world.

“By prioritizing education reform through legislative amendments such as those proposed in these bills, we are aligning ourselves with international best practices and demonstrating our commitment to providing quality education for all.”

The sponsor of the bill for the establishment of the Federal College of Education ( Special), Dukku, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, in his remarks, thanked the speaker and the entire members of the House for their support for the proposed legislation.

El-Rasheed, who represents Dukku/ Nafada Federal Constituency, of Gombe State, said “Our gathering today clearly indicates the interest we share collectively in supporting the comprehensive, holistic and inclusive development of our educational system as a nation.”

The lawmaker, during the second reading of the bill, has said that the establishment of the college will go a long way to train more teachers that will cater with students with special needs.
