The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has inaugurated a wide range of multibillion-naira development projects across Gombe State, reinforcing investments in healthcare, education and critical infrastructure.

The projects were inaugurated by the minister of state for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, during a two-day tour covering Gombe, Akko, Kwami, Billiri, Kaltungo and Dukku local government areas, all within Gombe State.

Key education interventions that were made include 480-bed capacity hostels constructed in each of the three mega colleges located in Dukku, Dadinkowa and Kaltungo, as well as the commissioning of Government Mega School, Kaltungo, equipped with modern classrooms, laboratories and administrative facilities.

Daily Sun’s investigations reveal that similar mega school projects have been replicated across the state’s three senatorial districts. In the health sector, the NEDC inaugurated two blocks of maternity clinics at Billiri General Hospital to strengthen maternal and child healthcare delivery. The delegation also inspected newly supplied medical equipment at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe, alongside ongoing projects including an ENT complex, trauma centre and MRI housing facility.

At Government Technical College, Kumo, a 250-bed students’ hostel was commissioned to support technical and vocational education, while additional hostel projects at Nafada were also inaugurated. Additionally, a three-span bridge project valued at N3.1 billion along the Gombe–Kwami–Dukku Road was inspected as part of the infrastructure drive.

Speaking during the exercise, the minister, Ahmadu said the projects were executed in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate for the NEDC to fast-track the reconstruction and development of the North East. He described health and education as strategic pillars for human capital development and regional stability.

Receiving the projects on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau commended the NEDC for interventions with direct impact on citizens’ lives. He assured that the state government would ensure proper maintenance and protection of the facilities.

Also speaking, NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to delivering people-focused projects that reduce regional disparities and promote long-term prosperity.

Traditional ruler of Kaltungo, the Mai of Kaltungo, Engr. Saleh Mohammed, described the mega school project as a landmark investment that would empower youths and drive community development.
