From Abdulrazaq Mungadi, Gombe
Gombe State has commenced institutional steps to guarantee the sustainability of investments under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes project (ACReSAL).
According to the state Project Coordinator, Sani Adamu Jauro, a draft bill aimed at institutionalising the project’s gains has been prepared and formally submitted to the State Ministry of Environment.
The Commissioner subsequently transmitted the draft to the Governor, who has forwarded it to the Ministry of Justice for legal scrutiny.
Jauro assured that upon completion of the legal review process, the state government is expected to initiate the legislative and administrative procedures required to establish a dedicated agency with a statutory mandate and an independent budget line.

The move is designed to ensure that interventions executed under ACReSAL are sustained beyond the six years lifespan of the current project cycle. According to him, the proposed agency, to be called the Gombe State Integrated Landscape Management Agency, will serve as a coordinating platform for agriculture, water resources, and environmental management.
The framework is structured to consolidate sectoral efforts under a unified governance architecture, thereby strengthening climate resilience, land restoration, and sustainable agricultural productivity across the state.
Jauro assured that the initiative reflects a strategic shift from project-based interventions to an institutional model capable of driving continuity, accountability, and long-term impact in landscape management.
