Gombe state governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has revealed that the creation of 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state was inspired by the governance model pioneered by Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure as Governor of Lagos state.

The Governor stated this during projects commissioning and foundation-laying ceremonies in Funakaye and Nafada Local Government Areas. He explained that the LCDAs were established to institutionalize sustainable development and bring governance closer to the grassroots.

“Our decision to establish these development areas draws inspiration from the remarkable success of Lagos state under Governor Tinubu. We are confident that adopting this model will strengthen local governance, accelerate development, and ensure our people directly benefit from government interventions,” he said.

During the foundation-laying ceremonies for Funakaye South LCDA in Tongo and Nafada South LCDA in Birin Fulani, Governor Yahaya emphasized that the development areas would focus on four thematic priorities: security, primary healthcare, education, and agriculture. These focus areas, he said, are critical to transforming communities, particularly rural settlements.

Governor Yahaya also hosted his Yobe State counterpart, Mai Mala Buni, alongside the Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari for the commissioning of key projects.

As part of the event, a newly constructed Mega Non-Formal Learning Centre (Tsangaya School) was commissioned in Nafada, an initiative aimed at integrating Almajiri children into structured education. The centre combines religious instruction with basic literacy, numeracy, and vocational training, as part of the Governor Yayaha’s administration’s commitment to addressing out-of-school children.

In addition, the guests oversaw the commissioning of the new Nafada Local Government Secretariat and the Nafada 4-Span Bridge, both of which address longstanding administrative and infrastructural challenges in the area.

Masari commissioned a 7.5 km road linking Kwanan Rugaji to Almakashi, with a spur to Gargaldu, connecting Funakaye in Gombe with neighboring communities in Yobe state. The road is expected to stimulate trade, ease transportation challenges, and improve access to social services across the region.

Also commissioned was a 66-shop commercial complex in Bajoga, the facility which is designed to boost local commerce, create employment opportunities, and provide a modern business environment for traders and entrepreneurs was named in honour of the late Emir Muhammadu Kwairanga.
