Gombe Governor signs N617.95bn 2026 budget into law

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill of Gombe State into law, authorising the implementation of the N617.95 billion budget. The signing took place at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Gombe, following its presentation by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

The budget allocates N189 billion (21.6 per cent) for recurrent expenditure and N428.5 billion (69.4 per cent) for capital projects, reflecting a continued focus on infrastructure, service delivery, and economic growth. The initial proposal of N535.69 billion was increased by more than N82 billion after legislative review.

According to a statement issued by Ismaila Uba Misilli Director-General (DG) Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, key component is the allocation of N12 billion for the Northern Security Fund, equating to N1 billion per month, in line with resolutions from the Northern States Governors’ Forum aimed at addressing regional insecurity.

Governor Yahaya said the 2026 budget prioritises sectors including health, education, social investment, environmental protection, and mineral resources development, with a dedicated allocation for the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD).

The Governor highlighted that his administration has implemented over 70 per cent of previous budgets and indicated that the government will continue to focus on infrastructure and service delivery across both urban and rural areas.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the state house of assembly, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo noted that the Assembly received the budget proposal on 13 November 2025 and conducted detailed scrutiny, including an extended session of the Appropriation Committee in Calabar, Cross River State, leading to adjustments in the final document.

He said the Assembly made its recommendations in line with public interest and confirmed that the legislative review focused on enhancing the budget’s effectiveness.
