The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, has charged newly promoted senior officers to prioritise the welfare of their troops and mentor their subordinates as they take on greater leadership responsibilities.
A statement by the spokesman of the division, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, quoted the GOC as charging the newly promoted officers to work more harder, even as they have been promoted, describing promotion as both a divine gift and a reward for dedication, discipline, and hard work.
He commended the professionalism and sacrifices of the officers, urging them to remain steadfast in upholding the Nigerian Army’s core values of loyalty, integrity, and selfless service.
The GOC further enjoined the officers to pay special attention to the welfare of their troops and their families, stressing that effective leadership is measured by how well leaders care for and mentor those under their command. He encouraged them to serve as role models and to provide guidance that will help shape the next generation of Army leaders.

The newly decorated officers include the Commanding Officer, 1040 Division Workshop, Colonel N.I. Ota; Acting Commander, 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Colonel K.E. Amedu; and Acting Chief of Staff, 55 Signals Brigade, Colonel I.I. Peters.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, Colonel N.I. Ota thanked the Almighty God and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for finding them worthy of elevation.
He also appreciated the GOC for his mentorship and guidance, pledging renewed dedication and commitment to duty. Colonel Ota further thanked their families, colleagues, and subordinates for their prayers and support throughout their careers.
The event was attended by senior officers and dignitaries, including the President, Mess Committee 81 Division Officers’ Mess, Brigadier General U.D. Igbokwe; Chief of Staff, Headquarters 81 Division, Brigadier General M.A. Oloyede; Commander, 9 Brigade, Brigadier General O.M. Oyekola; Commander, 55 Signal Brigade, Brigadier General M.M. Mato; and Commander, 81 Division Garrison, Brigadier General G.U. Bukar, among others.
