Her remarks signalled a radical shift in the battle for 2024 and created the conditions for an intensely heated eleven-week competition.
“In the enduring struggle between democracy and tyranny, I know where I stand, and I know where the United States belongs,” Harris declared, accusing Trump of aligning himself with dictators. She acknowledged the catastrophic situation in Gaza and promised to work with President Biden to secure lasting peace, all the while respecting Israel’s right to self-defence.
Moving on to domestic matters, Harris denounced Trump’s economic strategies, claiming that the middle class has been disproportionately hurt by them.
She outlined her own proposals, which included fighting corporate price gouging, bolstering voting rights and abortion rights, and cutting taxes for the middle class.
Harris’s acceptance speech comes at a critical juncture for the Democratic Party. After President Biden’s unexpected withdrawal from the race, Harris stepped in, quickly consolidating support and demonstrating fundraising prowess.

Harris has surpassed Trump in a number of battleground states, according to recent surveys, despite criticism that he lacks specific policy recommendations. Many attendees of the convention found her message of growth and unity to be uplifting, in contrast to Trump’s divisive statements.
While internal divisions remain within the party, particularly regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Harris’s speech signalled a unified front against Trump. With her message of change and her focus on key issues, she aims to energize voters and secure a historic victory in November.
