Nollywood actress and politician, Funke Adesiyan, has withdrawn from the race for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State.
Adesiyan declared her decision in a letter posted on Facebook on Saturday, addressed to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, dated April 24, 2026.
She said her withdrawal followed “certain reflections and high-level consultations,” describing the decision as personal, deliberate, and based on a broader assessment of the political landscape.
According to her, the move was guided by a desire to focus on long-term value, credibility, and purposeful service rather than immediate political contest.
“This decision is personal, deliberate, and guided by a clear assessment of the broader political landscape, as well as my commitment to long-term value, credibility and purposeful service,” she stated.
She expressed appreciation to her supporters and stakeholders for their encouragement and confidence in her political aspiration, noting that their support had been meaningful throughout her journey.
“I remain fully appreciative of the confidence reposed in me across different levels and the encouragement received from supporters and stakeholders within and beyond our constituency,” she added.
Funke Adesiyan added that stepping down at this time would allow her to redirect her efforts toward contributing to development through other strategic avenues, while reaffirming her commitment to the progress of Oyo State and Nigeria.
“At this time, I consider it more important to step back with clarity and focus, while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of our people through other strategic avenues,” she said.
