Fuel, naira scarcity: Emefiele, Buhari should quit, Osun CSOs fume

Osun Civil Society Coalition has called for the immediate sack of the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele while President Muhammadu Buhari should resign.

The group at a press conference in Osogbo, Osun State, Monday, said the president and CBN Governor have deliberately inflicted hardship on the people and they should resign for their ‘incapability.’

The chairman of the group, Comrade Waheed Lawal, said the position of the CBN and Buhari has shown that they are not concerned about the suffering of the people.

He warned that if the president fail to do something urgently and cancel the deadline for the swapping of the notes, the group would be forced to occupy the street.

“Considering the pains being experienced by the common men in getting cash for their livelihood, it would not be out of place to declare that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government is inconsiderate and insensitive to the plight of the citizens.

“The Central Bank of Nigeria led by Mr Godwin Emefiele has been playing hide-and-seek game on the circulation of the new naira notes.

“The withdrawal of the old naira notes and refusal of the CBN to release enough of the redesigned denominations amounts to a deliberate attempt to punish Nigerians unjustly. This is highly condemnable,” Lawal added.

Speaking, a leader of the group, Waheed Saka, said the best solution is to sack Emefiele and replace him with a competent person to man the CBN.

“There has never been any time in the history of this country, not even under General Sanni Abacha, that the people face a combination of crisis, fuel and currency crisis. This is unbearable, devilish, and anti-people. History will not be kind to this government with this type of arrangement. History will not be kind to Emefiele for putting the people to suffer.

“Emefiele should resign and if President Buhari is hell-bent on backing him, he should resign too. The National Assembly should see to it that the current arrangement is not working for the people,” Saka added.
