•Ehie’s resignation is for better service to Rivers – Aide

The lawmaker representing Ahoada-East Constituency II and speaker of the four aggrieved members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to governor, Mr. Edison Ehie, has resigned as speaker and member of the 10th Assembly.
Edison announced his resignation in a letter he released on Sunday but dated December 29, 2023, which was addressed to the National Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He expressed appreciation to his colleagues and people of his constituency for giving him the opportunity to serve them.
Ehie said his resignation took effect from the date of the letter and assured that he would continue to give his best in serving Rivers State.
The lawmaker, who was former deputy speaker of the ninth assembly, was the Leader of the 10th assembly before the eruption of crisis on October 30, this when the House moved to impeach the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
His speakership was recognized by a High Court of Rivers State, before the controversial Presidential Peace Proclamation (PPP), which was adjudged not in the interest of the aggrieved members of the House loyal to the governor.
He and three of his colleagues were suspended by of the House and he (Ehie) emerged their speaker.
He opposed the botched impeachment process and declared his loyalty for the embattled governor and emerged speaker of the four aggrieved members members of the House of Assembly.
However, Ehie’s resignation was confirmed by one of his aides, who said the lawmaker’s voluntary exit was for better service to the state.
The source said: “The letter of Mr. Speaker’s resignation is authentic. It is confirmed. It is for better service to the state. He is not resigning to go home. The government needs him in a better place.
