…Abductors demand N20 million ransom

Armed men suspected to be kidnappers Saturday evening kidnapped an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ekiti State, Oluwafemi Ojo and his wife, on the outskirts of Ogotun-Ekiti, in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Daily Sun gathered that the couple was picked up at about 5pm at a location between Ogotun and Igbara Odo, which have recently become a hideout for armed robbers and kidnappers.

A family member of the victim, who craved anonymity, disclosed that the kidnappers yesterday contacted the family, demanding N20 million ransom.

It was gathered that the couple were traveling in a navy blue Honda Accord car belonging to Oluwafemi’s elder brother, Oluwadare, who is also an FRSC officer serving in neighbouring Ondo State. Oluwafemi, his wife and elder brother, Oluwadare visited their hometown, Ogotun, on the fateful Saturday.

While the kidnappers dragged Oluwafemi and his wife into the bush, they spared the elder brother.

A motorcyclist in the community, identified as Ojo Olabisi, who ran into the kidnappers, had an accident, while trying to escape.

The source said: “This morning, the family was contacted by those who abducted them and they demanded N20 million ransom. We don’t have money to pay; those holding them should release them unconditionally.

“Femi and his wife were taken into the bush, while Dare, who owns the vehicle they were traveling in was left. It is curious that  a police checkpoint was two kilometers away from the scene of the robbery and abduction. The policemen were on Igbara Odo side.

“In the last five months, criminals, some of who wore army and police uniforms, killed not less than six residents in Ogotun and adjoining settlements. We want the government and security agencies to save us.”

Efforts to get a reaction from Police spokesperson, Alberto Adeyemi, failed as at press time, as he did not responded to phone calls.
