The Nigerian railway corporation has reiterated its resolve to continue steady freight operations from the sea to Dry ports across the country to optimise economic development through the railway reform programme of the Present administration.
The Managing Director of the NRC, Engineer Fidet Ohiria, remarked in Lagos Wednesday while receiving the delivery of yet another 17 containers from Kano state to Lagos, that the smooth operation being experienced since its launch is a testament to the government’s resolve to reduce movement of vehicle on Nigerian roads and for economic growth.
Engineer Ohiria, said, “This is in continuation and consolidation of freight services launched by the Ministry of Transportation in June last month.
According to Ohiria, the cargo train which arrived in Lagos at about noon on Wednesday, July 15, departed the Dala inland dry port Kano on Friday, July 5 same day.
The Nigerian government believes the cargo haulage system will ease the movement of goods from the ports to the landlocked areas would decongest traffic gridlock on seaports across the country, while reducing the number of vehicles on Nigerian roads and averting possible mishaps.
