#FreeNnamdiKanuNow: Gridlock in Abuja as security mounts roadblocks

From Molly Kilete, Abuja

Residents of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), especially civil servants, traders, motorists and other road users, had a hectic time reporting for their places of work following several roadblocks mounted by the military, police, civil defence and other security agencies on major roads in the FCT.

The roadblocks, which were mounted midnight Sunday, were to prevent the influx of protesters into the city centre who have vowed to protest the continuous detention of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

The protest, sponsored by the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, which started as early as seven o’clock in the morning, witnessed serious gridlock along the ever-busy Abuja/Keffi road as motorists blocked the entire expressway in their bid to shunt the traffic.

Motorists along the Abuja airport road also had a hectic day following the heavy traffic, forcing motorists to switch off their engines.

The story was the same for residents of Kubwa, Bwari/Dutse road as the popular expressway witnessed heavy traffic, while passengers in commercial vehicles who could not stand the traffic were forced to come down and trek.
