The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State says more than 150,000 new members have joined the party amid what it described as a growing wave of political realignment across the state.
The state APC chairman, Mohammed Hassan, disclosed this at a gathering of party leaders and supporters where lists containing approximately 117,000 new members were formally presented.
The lists were presented by the APC deputy governorship candidate, Farouk Mustapha; a former political adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed, Shittu Zaki; and Hassana Arkila.
Hassan said additional registrations and defections had been recorded across the state, pushing the total number of new entrants above 150,000.
Among those who joined the APC are Hamza, a former chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), about 20 former local government chairmen and a former member of the House of Representatives, alongside supporters previously associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The party also said former office holders, political organisers, community leaders, women, young people and grassroots supporters from different parts of the state had joined its ranks.
The APC attributed the development to sustained mobilisation by its leaders and stakeholders, including Mustapha, Zaki, Arkila and Zainab Babban Takko.
The party said many of the new members cited the performance of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the impact of Federal Government interventions in Bauchi State as reasons for joining the APC.
It also highlighted the contributions of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, particularly his role in the Federal Government’s health-sector reforms and interventions in Bauchi State and other parts of the country.
The APC, however, said the membership surge must go beyond numbers, stressing the need to properly document and integrate the new members into ward and local government structures.
The party said the collation and verification of membership records would continue as further returns were received from across the state.
