Foundation offers free cataract surgery, eye screening in Umuahia

A non governmental organisation (NGO), Kelvin Jombo Foundation has begun free cataract surgery and eye screening for residents of Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

The fee health care begun on Thursday, October 12 and it will end on October 14.

The gesture according to the foundation was part of activities to commemorate 2023 World Sight Day , with the theme, “Love Your Eyes at Work”.

The free vision screening outreach was held in Erinma Town Hall, Abriba on October 12 and at Madonna Catholic Hospital in Umuahia on October 13.

While on October 14, there will be free cataract surgeries for shortlisted recipients at the Madonna Catholic Hospital Umuahia.

Last year, the foundation sponsored 20 individuals for free cataract surgeries. This year, however, it is offering 1,000 reading glasses.

It will also provide free cataract surgeries to 25 individuals, and free eye screening and testing.

There will be free ocular medications (antibiotics, antihistamines, anti-glaucoma, anti-inflammatory, artificial tears among others) for beneficiaries.

The foundation aim to expand the net and intensify its efforts towards caring for those with small, medium, and chronic visual issues.
