A non-profit organization known as Onyinyeomachukwu Empowerment Foundation has awarded scholarship to 100 indigent pupils of the Living Christ Nursery and Primary School Onitsha, Anambra State.
The foundation was established in 2016 inline with Sustainable development goals of the United Nations, has its activities cut across other states, tribes and communities to touch and change lives of the downtrodden and the less privileged in the society.
The event which was held at the Living Christ School Onitsha attracted the representative of the wife of Anambra State Governor Dr. Nonye Soludo, representative of Commissioners of Woman Affairs and Environment, and Commissioner for Youths Development as well as representative from the University of Port Harcourt.
The foundation also used the occasion to commission a Health Post and garden to encourage the pupils to own and nurture crops and plant trees in their environments as well as distribution of pack of tissues, soaps, tooth brushes and pastes, hand sanitizers and hand wash to 700 pupils for self hygiene.
The Founder/Chairperson of the Foundation Dr. Onyinye Gift Uwaechia while announcing the scholarship scheme to the indigent pupils said that they were selected from different classes from Nursery one to Primary six, saying the foundation pay their school fees, books and other needs of the pupils during their stay in the school.
She said that the gesture was to complement what the Governor and the Wife were doing to put smiles in the faces of less privileged in the state through their various programmes and policies to ease the hardship in the country.
Uwaechia said the foundation was open for partnership from both government and other non governmental organizations to make life better for the teeming youths and less privileged ones in the society, stressing that she will continue to contribute her quota to lift the needy and indigents in the society.
According to her, “the act of giving has always been my second nature and I have always desired a society where everyone will have equal access to food, affordable water and basic needs of life. Our mission and vision is to continue to impact positively in people’s lives and to live a happier and more fulfilled life. It is because of the above intentions was the foundation was established in 2016.
“The SDGS of goals 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 16 and 17. The goals is to positively impact and impower as many people as possible, one at a time, hence ’empower one’. When one person is meaningfully empowered, he can go on to empower others and the chain continues, setting a chain of positive impact in the society.
“The mission and the vision of the foundation have been replicated in Abaji, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja where cash donations and food items were distributed to the less privilege. We were also at Zango-Kataf Community in Kaduna, where we distributed humanitarian items such as food items , clothing and cash.
“We even went as far as renovating and refurbishing the primary school in the same community. The foundation also sank a borehole, built a standard lavatory facility, donated a generator, food items and cash to the widows and physically challenged in Atta community.
“My team also developed the ‘Nature Mother Nature Initiative’ to be a movement that is geared towards saving Mother Earth. Charity begins at home , therefore I chose my first port of call to be living Christ Nursery and Primary School Onitsha. What I intend to achieve is to teach and sensitize these young stars on the need for them to take responsibility for their environment and their health. If we can catch them young and help them inculcate the duty of care and responsibility, then the future is sure.
Speaking at the event, Anambra State Commissioner for Youths Development Mr. Patrick Agha Mba commended the founder of the foundation for her vision and passion of given back to the society.
Agha Mba said the government of Prof Soludo is determined to partner with positive ideas and programmes geared towards impacting on youths and education as he has impacted positively in those areas in the recent time.
He said the founder has emulated the efforts of the governor to rid off the children on the streets through his scholarship scheme from primary to Junior secondary school and reduction of fees in senior secondary schools in the state to ensure that every children in the state acquires education.
