Miva Open University, in partnership with the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation (TOF), has awarded scholarships to the first 200 beneficiaries of the Gbemisola Olowolafe Miva Scholarship Programme, marking a major step in efforts to expand access to higher education in the country.

The scholarship initiative, valued at N1billion for over five years, is designed to support 1,000 students with strong academic potential who require financial assistance to pursue undergraduate education.

According to the organisers, the programme attracted more than 1,700 applications from students across the country when applications opened in March. Following what was described as a rigorous and transparent selection process, 200 students were chosen based on academic performance, financial need, and clearly defined educational goals.

The selected beneficiaries were notified via email after the completion of the screening process.

Miva Open University said the scholarship reflects a shared commitment between both organisations to reduce barriers to education and create opportunities for talented young Nigerians.

Vice Chancellor of Miva Open University, Prof. Tayo Arulogun, described the development as an important milestone in the institution’s mission to make quality education more accessible.

“This initiative ensures that capable students are not limited by financial barriers,” Arulogun said.

Founder of the Tunji Olowolafe Foundation, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, highlighted the long-term impact of the initiative, noting that the programme is focused on human capital development and empowering young Nigerians through education.

Both organisations congratulated the beneficiaries and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the students throughout their academic journey, ”this is a significant achievement. We look forward to supporting their journey,” the organisations stated.

The scholarship programme will continue in phases until the target of 1,000 beneficiaries is achieved. Organisers noted that the partnership is expected to play a key role in equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills required to contribute meaningfully to society.
