Food Security: Lawmaker Distributes Farm Inputs To 500 Kaduna South Farmers

From Sola Ojo, Kaduna

Hon. Hussaini Abdulkarim, representing Kaduna South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has distributed farm inputs worth millions of naira to 500 farmers in his constituency.

Each beneficiary received a package containing ten bags of ten kilogrammes Improved seed, four cartons of liquid fertiliser, two bags of 50 kilogrammes fertiliser, and either a solar-powered or manual water pump.

Speaking during the distribution at Government Girls Secondary School, Ungwan Sanusi, Kaduna, the lawmaker, popularly known as KERO, explained that the gesture was necessary considering the current economic situation in the country, which has made it difficult for many local farmers to purchase these inputs for the farming season.

According to him, the inputs would also support the government’s efforts at ensuring food availability and food security in the country.

“We are happy to be here again today. Just last week, we flagged off the construction of a two-kilometre road in our constituency and also shared bags (25 kg) of rice with about 1,200 vulnerable individuals,” he said.

“Today, we are supporting our local farmers, 500 of them, who have been carefully and strategically selected from the political wards under Kaduna South Federal Constituency, with all they need for this farming season.”

KERO warned the beneficiaries, “Let me sound a note of warning, that, under no circumstance, should any of these items find its way into the market or be used for other purposes than intended which is direct farming by the recipients.”

“As a Lawmaker, I understand the significance of food and food production to us as individuals and its economic value along the value chain and to the government at large,” he added.

“The farming season is just starting, hence, the timely distribution of these inputs so that you can swing into action immediately and avoid the temptation to divert it as we already included independent monitors to track these items,” he warned.

KERO expressed confidence that with the proper use of the inputs and the vast arable land available, the constituency would be able to meet its food security target and possibly supply neighbouring areas by 2025.
