Flag Football winners receive cash prizes

Students of Community Secondary Commercial School, Ibiaku Itam, on Monday, were excited as Chairman State Secondary Education Board and other high profiled visitors witnessed presentations of cash rewards following their 2nd place finish at the 2024 National School Flag Football Tournament in Calabar.

Ekaette Ebong, Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Secondary Education Board, appreciated

the National Flag Football Association, (NAFA) President Babajide Akeredolu for redeeming the promise. Hon. Ebong also applaud parents who supported their children participation in sports while thanking the school principal, Mrs Mary Okon, and staff.

Hon. Ebong reminded the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien of the need for the children to be properly received by His Excellency Gov. Umo Eno.

The children were assured that the message would get across to appropriate officials for the handshake with the governor.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker for the State, Rt. Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem promised more support for the students for more exploits in sports.

N700,000 was awarded each to the school male and female teams who narrowly lost to Lagos State in January 2025. While most of the prize money is expected to assist the procurement of Flag football equipment,the principal pleaded for the construction of the perimeter fence to secure the school.

Also, at the event were HRH Dr. Donald Uboh, the Clan Head of Itam, Hon. Ubong Nkut, Itu Council Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Ebong, Director School Sports and Mr. Ifiok Inim, the School Games Master.
