In Nigeria today, politics and entertainment are no longer worlds apart. Some of the country’s biggest stars have crossed from the stage and screen into public service, using their fame to push for development and social change.

Here are five well-known celebrities who currently hold political positions in Nigeria:

1. Davido (David Adeleke)

Afrobeats superstar Davido recently took on a new role outside music. In October 2025, the Osun State Government appointed him as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.

The position places him at the heart of sports development in his home state, overseeing youth-oriented initiatives, infrastructure, and investment in local talent.

Davido’s appointment didn’t surprise many, considering his long-standing support for community projects in Osun and across Nigeria.

2. Desmond Elliot

From acting on TV screens to debating on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot has become one of Nigeria’s most recognised celebrity politicians.

Elected in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), he represents Surulere Constituency 1 and is now serving his third term.

Over the years, he’s been involved in bills and community programs aimed at empowering youths and improving education within his constituency.

3. Eniola Badmus

Popular actress Eniola Badmus, known for her comic roles in Nollywood, now serves as Special Assistant on Social Events and Public Hearings to the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

Her appointment, confirmed in 2024, reflects her growing influence beyond film.

Eniola has since shown interest in deeper political involvement and once hinted that she hopes to contest for a senatorial seat in the future.

4. Ali Nuhu

Often called the “King of Kannywood,” Ali Nuhu is another film star making an impact in public service.

In early 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed him as Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), the government agency responsible for promoting and regulating the movie industry.

Through this role, Nuhu oversees projects aimed at improving the creative economy and supporting young filmmakers across the country.

5. 2Baba (Innocent Ujah Idibia)

Music icon 2Baba, known for timeless hits like ‘African Queen’, also holds a political appointment.

In April 2025, he was named Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach to the Benue State Government.

The singer, who has been active in social campaigns for peace and unity, is expected to use his experience to promote youth engagement and cultural development in his home state.
