In a message commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2025, First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, emphasised the urgent need to address the rising threat of digital violence against women and girls. Highlighting this year’s theme, “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,” Mrs Tinubu called attention to the pervasive online abuse—including bullying, blackmail, stalking, and gender-based hate—that many women and girls endure.

The First Lady stressed that digital spaces should be places of connection, learning, and productivity rather than fear. She asserted that violence in any form, whether offline or online, threatens the dignity, safety, and potential of female citizens. Senator Tinubu expressed solidarity with survivors and advocates working to end gender-based violence.

She also called on government bodies, particularly the legislature and judiciary, alongside technology companies, civil society, and every Nigerian to take decisive steps toward making online environments safe, inclusive, and respectful for all. The message concluded with First Lady Tinubu wishing Nigerians a meaningful commemoration on this important day.
