First fragrance fair: Whiff of luxury in Abuja

Imagine being transported to a world filled with the most exquisite fragrances, all in one place. This captivating experience came to life in Abuja during the highly anticipated first fragrance fair on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

 

With the theme “A little bit of heaven in the air at PalmeDo’r,” the event marked a significant milestone not only for Abuja but for Nigeria as a whole. The fragrance fair was organized by MaQuinces – A concept of Ivy-Lil’Beth, a rising luxury gift curation and fragrance company based in Abuja, Nigeria.

The fair, which lasted for six hours, mesmerized attendees with a heavenly ambience and a relaxing atmosphere that permeated the air. Each fragrance from MaQuinces had its own stall or stand, showcasing the array of scented treasures the brand has to offer. Amidst an enchanting backdrop, the fair also featured representatives from various luxury brands in Abuja, adding to the allure of the event.

Guests were treated to delicious culinary delights, refreshing drinks, and uplifting music that accompanied them throughout the day.

One of the fair’s highlights was an exquisite fashion show, where the stories behind each fragrance were narrated while stunning models walked down the runway.

This immersive experience not only captivated the audience but also provided them with a compelling reason to indulge in the fragrance offerings beyond just one or two options.

The fragrance fair enabled individuals to explore the beauty of MaQuinces’ luxurious range of scented candles, diffusers, room sprays and more. Attendees were spoilt for choice, with popular demands.

The event saw a tremendous success in terms of sales, with many visitors leaving with three to five fragrances, testament to the exceptional quality of MaQuinces’ offerings.

Yvonne Akpomedaye, the organizer of the fair, said that one of the objectives was to bring together industry leaders, luxury brands, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts to celebrate innovation, showcase groundbreaking products, and foster meaningful connections within the community. This objective was resoundingly achieved.

Yvonne reveals that MaQuinces, a brand established in 2016, has embarked on a remarkable journey, focused on curating extraordinary luxury gifts and experiences for individuals and organizations. MaQuinces was conceived as a sister brand to Ivy-Lil’Beth Concepts, an event management and interior design company, which has been operating successfully since September 2009.

In March 2020, MaQuinces expanded its offerings with the introduction of the fragrance line. As scented candles, diffusers, and other home and space fragrances have always been integral to our gift curation, it seemed natural to develop our own product line.

“This dream had written down for two years, and after giving myself ample time to learn and grow in the production process, the MaQuinces Fragrances were finally realised. Over the past three years, we have received numerous expressions of satisfaction from customers who have delighted in the unique experience our fragrances provide.

“Our plan for the MaQuinces brand is to establish it as a globally recognized luxury brand, adorning the shelves of prestigious establishments worldwide. The recent introduction of the fragrance fair, a pioneering event, was a significant step in that direction. This fair celebrated innovation, collaboration, luxury, and fostered meaningful connections through networking. We envision making this Fair a biannual extravaganza, setting the stage for many more exciting events to come.”

One of those, who was at the fair, Minapet Mukan, shared her admiration for the wide variety of fragrances available at the fair, appreciating the inclusion of both subtle masculine and feminine scents in candles and diffusers.

She described the atmosphere of the fair as welcoming and friendly, enabling her to connect with new people, rekindle old acquaintances, and spend time with friends. She noted that the attentive and helpful stewards were eager to showcase products that would leave visitors satisfied with their purchases.

Minapet couldn’t resist indulging herself by acquiring the Queen’s Date Candle, which emanates a relaxing fragrance throughout her bedroom when lit.

“This delightful scent brought a smile to my face, providing a sense of being cherished and special.

“My experience at the fair was delightful, and I’m grateful for being a part of the inaugural event. I eagerly anticipated future editions, anticipating that MaQuinces would continue to surprise attendees with new and exciting goods.“

Jules Virturella was thrilled with the diverse range of fragrance options offered by the MaQuinces brand, noting that the scents were divine. She found the fragrance fair to be an exceptional experience, unlike anything she had encountered before. Jules stressed that MaQuinces is a luxury brand that can be relied upon and trusted for quality.

Temitope described her experience at the fragrance fair as a captivating and aromatic journey that transported them into a world of delightful scents, exceptional blends, and the artistry of perfumery. Upon entering the fair hall, Temitope said she was immediately enveloped by a symphony of fragrances, piquing their curiosity and stimulating their senses.

She said she had the opportunity to explore a diverse range of scents and engage with devoted attendants, leading to a newfound admiration for the meticulous craftsmanship and innovative creativity imbued in each beautifully crafted candle and diffuser.

For Ogochukwu, the fair was a truly exceptional and inviting experience. The venue was adorned with exquisite decor, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail. The team members were not only friendly but also maintained a high level of professionalism throughout.

Exploring the extensive range of MaQuinces products was a delightful adventure. Each scent possessed a unique and evocative quality, catering to every mood and personality imaginable. Ogochukwu said she thoroughly enjoyed discovering new fragrances and carefully selecting beautiful candles and diffusers to bring home. She eagerly anticipates the next MaQuinces Fragrance Fair, already yearning to revisit the enchanting experience.

Furo, the fair was a truly unique experience, being the first of its kind in Nigeria. She marveled at the vast selection of fragrances available, ranging from the soft and delicate scents of berries to the alluring and woody aroma of leather. The availability of these fragrances in both candle and diffuser oil forms was absolutely remarkable.

Furo said she was in awe of the electric atmosphere at the fair, and found the combination of attentive staff and pleasant hostesses to be a heavenly addition, further enhancing the overall experience.

Looking ahead with excitement and anticipation, Akpomedaye divulged her plans for MaQuinces 2.0, with the utmost confidence that it will exceed the success of the inaugural Fair. She eagerly expressed her belief in a tremendous turnout for the next event, which is expected to foster exceptional business opportunities and collaborations. This includes partnerships with spas, foreign interior design brands, foreign perfume brands, and many more. Akpomedaye emphasized the power of scent, quoting Marcel Proust by stating, “Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived.” With this quote, she highlights the transformative and evocative nature of fragrance, further igniting excitement for the future of MaQuinces.
