…As Enugu LG Boss reiterates commitment to youth empowerment

From Felix Ikem Nsukka

Nsukka Local Government Council in Enugu State has given Miss Udoamaka Iyioke, who graduated with a first-class honours degree at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in 2016, an automatic appointment and scholarship for a master’s degree program.

Presenting the letter of appointment and scholarship to Iyioke in Nsukka on Tuesday, Chief Jude Asogwa, the Chairman of Nsukka LG, said the gesture highlights his administration’s support for education and academic excellence, as well as youth empowerment.

The LG boss stressed that the council would always key into the mission and vision of Gov Peter Mbah, who made education the priority of his administration.

“Iyoke’s situation was brought to my attention by Hon Emeka Asogwa, Special Assistant on Youth Affairs to Ex-Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, who located Iyioke through her father, whom he met accidentally while looking for direction to a place he was going.

“Emeka told me that we have someone who graduated with a first-class degree 10 years ago without employment.

“So, we thought it wise to appoint her as special assistant to the LG chairman on administration, given that she studied public administration and local government, with knowledge of administration in local government.

“This gesture highlights our administration’s human-oriented governance for the people. It also emphasises our support for education and youth empowerment at the local government level,” he said.

Speaking further, the chairman
reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to unlocking the potential of youths from the area in order to drive economic growth and foster a sustainable economy through education and empowerment.

“Just last Sunday, we concluded the Nsukka female football tournament, where the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports came with some professionals and selected five of our girls to be moved to the Enugu Rangers female football team.

“Nsukka LG under my watch is following the footsteps of Gov Mbah’s administration, that is why today we are rewarding academic excellence.

“The Governor has demonstrated his love for education with the 33 per cent of the state budget allocated to education, which has exceeded the United Nations’ least budget education allocation requirement of 15 -20  per cent,” he said.

Speaking, Emeka commended the LG boss for rewarding academic excellence and perseverance, advising youths to always have faith in God, who must surely intervene to change their situations.

“God has put a smile on Iyioke’s face today. With hard work and faith, one day God will also change your situation and put a smile on your face.

“If you combine good character and competence, God, the supernatural being, will intervene for you one day,” he said.

In a remark, Sylvanus Iyioke, the father of Udoamaka, thanked God for using Emeka Asogwa to connect his daughter to her destiny helper.

He commended the LG chairman’s good gesture in offering her daughter an appointment and scholarship and prayed God to bless him abundantly.

Responding, Udoamaka, who was visibly excited and overwhelmed, said she lacked words to express her appreciation to Emeka and the LG Chairman, whom she said God had used as instruments to give her appointment and scholarship.

“What happened today in my life has once again reconfirmed that with hard work and faith,  God will never fail.

“Time may tarry, the night may be long, but daybreak will surely come.

“I feel super excited about this appointment and scholarship offered to me by the Chairman of Nsukka LG. I give God all the glory, to my honour and the glory of God,” she said.
