Towards promoting healthy living among communities, a pharmaceutical company, Patricklingo, has sponsored a football tournament aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles as a preventive measure for families and communities across Anambra State.

The tournament, which started three weeks ago ended yesterday, underscored the importance of engaging in sporting activities as an essential tool to preventive diseases and maintaining a balanced healthy lifestyle.

Speaking with journalists at the end of the final matches, which held at the football pitch of the Modebe Secondary School, Onitsha, on Monday, a representative of Patricklingo, Uchechukwu Nnaji, described football as a powerful tool to promote fitness, teamwork and wellness in society.

Nnaji said the pharmaceutical company sponsored the three-week tournament with the aim of encouraging healthy lifestyles as a preventive measure for families and also to engage the youths and take them off the streets.

On what inspired his firm to organise the tournament and the choice of sports as a platform for engagement, Nnaji said sports served as means of connectivity, not just medically, but emotionally and socially.

He said, “As a pharmaceutical company, our aim is to promote healthy lifestyle in families and communities. The tournament reflects our belief that true healthcare starts with preventive habits, staying active, strong, and healthy.

“We believe health is a lifestyle. Football offers a powerful way to promote fitness, teamwork, and wellness in our communities. Sports unite people across backgrounds. It allows us to connect emotionally and socially, not just medically, with Nigerians.”

According to him, the tournament initiative aligns with Patrick lingo’s overall vision to make quality healthcare accessible and relatable to everyone.

He said the company is committed to producing reliable medicines while engaging communities through education and wellness programmes.

“As healthcare leaders, we see ourselves as trusted partners, not only in medicine, but also in public wellness advocacy.

“Engaging through sports brings that vision to life in a fun, human way. We aim to inspire young people, promote teamwork, and show that discipline and good health are keys to success, both in sports and in life.

“We are planning more community-based programmes, including developing a series of health awareness campaigns and plan to extend this football initiative to more states across Nigeria.

“Watching how football has brought the community together and seeing our people play with such passion is a reminder of why we started this journey. Our focus is on safety, affordability, and trust,” he added.

At the end of the competition, Team Bacteanal Cream came first winning the trophy and a cash sum of N250,000.00, while Team Babadol Tablet came second winning the cash sum of N150,000. The third prize went to Team Babazora which won the cash prize of
