A fire outbreak at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Sunday temporarily disrupted airport operations, prompting an emergency response from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), which confirmed that no casualties were recorded.
The incident occurred in the morning, with emergency responders from FAAN’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) swiftly mobilised to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the terminal.
In a statement released via its official X account, FAAN assured the public that its emergency response team was actively managing the situation.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,” the authority stated.
FAAN added that its firefighters were working to bring the situation under control and minimise disruption to airport activities.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the statement added.
Although the fire affected operations at the terminal, the authority confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries had been reported as of the time of filing this report.
“There have been no reported casualties or loss of life,” FAAN said.
The authority did not immediately disclose the cause of the fire or the extent of damage to the facility, indicating that further information would be provided as investigations and emergency operations continued.
The incident is expected to affect flight schedules at Terminal 2 until normal operations are fully restored, with passengers advised to monitor updates from airlines and airport authorities.
FAAN said it would continue to keep the public informed as more details emerge regarding the incident and the progress of recovery efforts.
