Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has expressed confidence that he will defeat incumbent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the 2027 senatorial election for Kogi Central.
Bello, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the senatorial seat, made his position known during an appearance on TVC News’ Politics on Sunday, where he discussed his political ambition and the prospects of his party and President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.
The former governor dismissed doubts about his chances, saying the election scheduled for January 16, 2027, would reveal the level of support he commands among voters.
“16th January will come, and we’ll see. 16th of January 2027 is around the corner. The result will speak for itself,” Bello said.

He also predicted a strong performance at the polls, adding, “Massive votes and decisive victory for Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi.”
Bello governed Kogi State from 2016 to 2024 and remains a prominent figure in the APC. His bid for the Senate seat sets up a contest against Akpoti-Uduaghan, who won the Kogi Central senatorial election in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Akpoti-Uduaghan currently represents the district in the Senate, making the anticipated contest a major political battle in Kogi State as parties and candidates begin preparing for the 2027 general election.
Bello’s remarks also reflect his confidence in the APC’s prospects in the forthcoming polls. However, the outcome of the contest will be determined by voters when the election is held.
