FIFA has rejected a request by Iran to relocate its 2026 World Cup matches away from the United States, despite rising tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Israel-the United States and Iran.
Iran had asked that its matches be moved to either Mexico or Canada, citing security concerns for players and supporters.
The 2026 tournament will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with fixtures already fixed under FIFA’s planning structure.
FIFA said it is monitoring developments but sees no need to alter existing arrangements.
“FIFA is closely monitoring geopolitical developments and remains in constant contact with the relevant authorities.”
It added that there are no immediate plans to change venues.
