Former Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman, has urged opposition parties to focus their attention on defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election rather than attacking fellow opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

Lukman made the call during an interview on ARISE News, where he advocated greater cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the election.

According to him, opposition groups must recognise that their primary political objective should be to challenge the ruling APC and present Nigerians with a credible alternative in 2027.

“As far as we are concerned, we are putting forward a structure and have submitted a proposal for them to consider,” Lukman said.

He explained that the proposed structure was aimed at bringing opposition parties together and creating a platform through which they could operate as a united political force.

“The goal is to establish a structure that will enable them to operate as a united body, so that by the 2027 election, they can present Nigerians with a united front,” he added.

Lukman stressed that internal disagreements among opposition figures could weaken their chances of challenging the ruling party if they were not addressed.

He therefore urged opposition politicians to look beyond individual ambitions and work towards building a broader coalition capable of competing effectively against the APC.
