The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Mgbo, Ebonyi State, has described the Federal Government’s reforms as good only on paper.

The church said the government’s reforms have not impacted the lives of the average Nigerian.

In a communique jointly signed by the Bishop of the Diocese,  Rev. J. Ken Egbochue, Rev. B. I. Nsiegbunam the Synod Secretary and Chinelo Okoro, Media Director of the church, at the end of its 15th Synod in Mgbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state, the church affirmed that Nigeria was facing perilous times of insecurity, economic instability and societal unrest.

“While reforms appear good on paper, Synod noted that growth is not realistic in the lives of average Nigerians.

“Synod, therefore, urges all eligible members to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) and participate in credible voting in the 2027 general elections,” the communique read in part.

The church frowned at practices, where certificates for weddings and baptisms are treated as private property of ministers and declared that such certificates and collections belong to the local church.

The church also condemned the illegal practice of “churching” and directed that all thanksgiving offerings and other related funds belong to the Church.
