FG Postpones Inauguration Of Governing Councils For Tertiary Institutions

From Fred Ezeh, Abuja

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the postponement of the inauguration of Pro-Chancellors, Chairmen, and Members of Governing Councils of Federal Tertiary Institutions.

The inauguration was previously scheduled to take place on Thursday, 30th and Friday, 31st May 2024, as announced when the list of council members was made public a few days ago.

It was also announced that the inauguration would be followed by a retreat for the members to acquaint them with their expected responsibilities and duties, in order to avoid unnecessary interference or clashes in the day-to-day activities of their respective institutions.

Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, has issued a statement apologizing on behalf of the Ministry for any inconveniences caused by the postponement.

She explained that the decision was made in response to a recent directive from the Presidency, which called for a comprehensive review of the membership of the Governing Councils of Federal Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria to ensure better representation of the national character.

The new date for the inauguration will be communicated to all parties once it has been finalised.
