The Chancellor of the University of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Prof. James Ayatse, yesterday, said that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the establishment of worthy and endearing legacies for Nigerians, particularly in the education sector.
He said this while addressing the graduands and other guests at the institution’s 48th Convocation cum 53rd Founders’ Day ceremonies.
Ayatse stated that the school despite confronting with some challenges, has continued to make giants strides in providing quality education for the people.
“It has demonstrated commitment to the provisional of modern facilities for the training of first class products who are responsive to the needs of their society”
The Tiv Tor and Chairman Benue State Council of Traditional, while commending the Vice Chancellor of institution, Prof. Lilian and team the numerous accomplishment in the past four years, maintained that the Vice Chancellor’s purposeful leadership has continued to project the school positively.
Prof. Ayatse, however congratulated the graduands for their successes in the final exams, and urged them to be proud of the institution which according to him place high premium on excellence in accordance with the best global practices.
In her welcome address, Prof. Salami, congratulated the graduands and advised them to be good ambassadors of the school.
She disclosed that a total of 178 students of the University bagged First Degrees as the Institution graduated 14, 254 students
The Vice Chancellor gave the breakdown of the class of degrees as First Class (178), Second Class Upper (4,353), Second Class Lower (8,607), Third Class (400), Pass (14), Diploma (5), Unclassified (576), Distinction (1) Credit (81) and Pass (39).
Reeling out some of her administration’s achievements, the University don maintained that her administration would continue to pursue academic excellence and growth.
“This administration has, in the last four years been consistent in it’s pursuit of academic excellence and maximum growth in all spheres as a way of rewriting the narrative of the University for the better.
“This drive has placed us on a high pedestal in the comity of higher Institutions and attracted a lot of respect to the Institution and its graduates. That is why today, we are proud to turn out men and women adjudged worthy to earn the University’s degrees and diplomas at the first degree level”,
“As ways of deepening our commitment to high quality education, we have gone to great length to up-grade the Information Communications Technology (ICT) facilities, the Library has witnessed a face lift.While the health Centre has been repositioned to render standard health care to staff and students.
“These projects have been executed courtesy of the federal government, its agency; Tetfund, philanthropic Individuals and Organisations”, she continued.
