In a significant move aimed at addressing the funding challenges in road infrastructure, the Federal Government has partnered with Julius Berger plc to explore innovative financing solutions for the construction of the Lokoja-Shintaku Bridge in Kogi State.
The decision was reached during a pivotal meeting convened by David Umahi, Minister of Works, in Abuja. Present at the meeting were representatives from Julius Berger plc, including Business Development Strategist Filipe Nuno Lopes, alongside Deutsche Bank officials Humaya Harati and Andreas Voss, who discussed structured trade and export finance options for the project.

Umahi highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to closing the gap in road infrastructure funding and expressed optimism in Julius Berger’s extensive experience and robust financial capabilities across the African continent. He stressed the importance of streamlining the procurement timeline to ensure prompt commencement and efficient completion of the project, describing the deliberations as a credible pathway towards securing necessary financing.
Filipe Nuno Lopes, speaking on behalf of Julius Berger plc, confirmed the Bureau of Public Procurement’s issuance of a certificate of no objection for the single-source procurement approach, signaling a positive step forward for the Lokoja-Shintaku project. He emphasized the success of the meeting in advancing discussions on project development and exploring viable funding options.
The collaborative effort marks a pivotal moment in advancing infrastructure development in Nigeria, underscoring the proactive approach of both the government and Julius Berger plc in achieving transformative infrastructure projects.
